Homemade Tomato Sauce – Easy to Make, Perfect Not Only for Pizza

Is there anything better than pizza? – Yes, there is: a homemade pizza! Firstly, making it at home is so much fun. Secondly, you have complete control over what you are going to put on top of it. And I don’t only mean a combination of ingredients but also, or maybe even more importantly, their quality. Let’s be honest, restaurants are businesses, and as such, they are about making money. Obviously, many of them don’t compromise the quality of served food; they may simply charge more. But some pizzerias do choose worse products. As a result, both the taste and healthiness of food suffer.

When we prepare pizza at home, we make decisions about a type of cheese, ham and other ingredients we use. We can also decide whether we will use a shop bought or homemade tomato sauce. And although I know how tempting it is to use a ready-made sauce, I recommend preparing your own. If you haven’t made it yourself yet, I am sure once you try it, you will never go back to the shop bought one.

Preparation of tomato sauce is easy and straightforward. You can make it with fresh tomatoes. But you can easily use canned ones without worrying too much about losing nutrients. Tomatoes are probably the only produce that the longer is cooked, the more nutritious it becomes. Of course, cooking lowers Vitamin C content, but it increases the lycopene content. This carotenoid (which gives colour to tomatoes) has antioxidant properties. And it is supposed to prevent prostate and breast cancer which makes it very good for all of us.

Once you prepare Homemade Tomato Sauce, you will see how versatile it is. You can obviously use it for pizza. But add some prawns or chicken pieces or any vegetables, and you will have a delicious pasta or rice sauce. That is why it is a good idea to prepare more of it and keep it in a fridge or freezer. It will be so convenient when you have to cook something tasty and healthy quickly.
