Many years ago we discovered a lovely restaurant in Warsaw with a great ambience. It was beautifully decorated in an old-fashioned, rather than fashionable minimalistic way.
We were sure always to find there immaculately starched and ironed tablecloths and serviettes. There were beautiful flower arrangements, not only on each of the tables but also on a charming fireplace and at the entrance.
The restaurant, also, and most importantly served delicious food.
I don’t remember what I ordered when we were there for the first time. The choice was big, and everything sounded exquisite.
But one time we went there I wasn’t too hungry and wanted something pretty light. So I chose a Grilled Goat’s Cheese Salad with Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a delicious dressing.
I enjoyed that salad so much that afterwards whenever we went to that place, I didn’t even bother to look at the menu. I always chose my favourite dish.
But then one day I decided to make my version at home and combined two of my favourite ingredients: salty goat’s cheese and sweet figs.
In my recipe, I grilled the figs along with the goat’s cheese, but I am sure it would be equally good with raw figs. The delicious sweet and sour dressing united all the ingredients. And the toasted almonds added crunch.
Everything together made an incredible Grilled Goat’s Cheese and Fig Salad perfect for lunch or even a lighter dinner.
P.S. Naturally, when my home creation proved to be so successful, it didn’t make any sense for me to order the salad in the restaurant.
But that was in truth good news because finally, I could start enjoying other meals prepared in this delightful restaurant.
