The beginning of a year is traditionally a time to make New Year’s resolutions. So if you would like to improve your chances of realising any of your plans, you will find some essential tips in this article. But you may already be fed up with failing whenever it comes to your resolutions. Maybe you can’t achieve your goals because they are too challenging. So how about trying with something that is easy to follow and at the same time very good for you?

Drinking water with lemon each morning can be so easily arranged. You need to juice one lemon and add it to a glass of water. Depending on the additional results you would like to achieve, you can add the juice to either cold or warm water. Cold water with lemon helps to burn calories and stimulates the metabolism (body needs the energy to warm up cold water). Warm water with lemon drank on an empty stomach stimulates intestines, cleanses the body and helps in intestinal peristalsis.

There are many other benefits of drinking water with lemon. Firstly, starting a day with a glass of water makes it easier to achieve the recommended minimum of 2 litres at the end of a day. Secondly, although lemons are sour, they don’t acidify our bodies. They alkalize them which means they cleanse the body.

As we all know, lemons are rich in vitamin C. Two tablespoons of lemon juice provide 25% of the recommended daily intake of this nutrient. Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant that eliminates free radicals from our bodies. It helps in reducing the concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides as well as lowering blood pressure. Vitamin C improves quality of our skin, hair and nails. It also strengthens our immune system and prevents from colds. And evidently, the best way to take vitamins is not through supplementation but a healthy diet. Thus drinking water with lemon juice, a natural source of Vitamin C, is a great and healthy habit.

 

Other Benefits of Drinking Water with Lemon

Help in fighting headaches is another example of drinking water with lemon benefits. As per researches, dehydration can increase the risk of migraines. Unfortunately, many people who suffer from migraines don’t drink enough water, mainly because they don’t like its taste. Adding lemon to the water can help solve this problem without adding extra calories.

There are even more groups of people for whom it is advisable to regularly drink water with lemon juice. For example, people who suffer from kidney stones and gout should drink it as it dilutes uric acid, dissolves the stones and dangerous purines. This simple mixture helps also pregnant women because it reduces morning sickness. It additionally helps fight bad breath.

As you can see, there are many benefits of drinking water with lemon. However, we have to remember that frequent drinking of acidic liquids may adversely affect dental enamel. Luckily rinsing the mouth with plain water and brushing teeth not sooner than 30 minutes after having the drink solves this problem.
